A fantastic Saturday was spent by the team in Goldwell Park, Newbury, our flagship Lockdown wood site. A group of 16 adults and one child joined together to gather freshly cut grass from our new woodland site and form hay. We would like to specifically thank Rivar Sand and Gravel for supplying 40 bulk bags that we could use to collect grass, which will be composted by the council. See amazing photos of the day below taken by the talented Lucie Robinson.
This was an important step to reduce nutrient levels in the soil, encouraging a diversity of wildflowers to grow and supress vigorous grasses! Watch this video on the right by Garden Ninja if you'd like to learn a little more about why this step is key and how you can execute it at home!
If you would like to get involved with our hay cutting sessions, we would love to see you at our next event on Sunday 12th September at our second site Barn Crescent. Don't worry if you haven't come along before, the more the merrier! Look at our events page to find out the details and what to bring along. See you there:)
